Prayer Movements in Africa: Rise in Strength

‘You are the light of the world…. let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’

Fortuna Tioye from Burkina Faso and Kenya writes:
“Over 700 women have committed to pray and intercede during the time of Covid19. We called for three days Fasting and Prayer in March and since then, we have been praying continuously and sending words of encouragement. Botswana women are planning for 40 days of prayer in partnership with other organizations and in Central Africa (CAR) there is a 24 hour prayer-chain initiative on the radio. In Liberia there is also 24 hour prayer and in their radio program they promote government health messages.

“We are conscious that we are a light shining in our communities. We want people to see our good deeds and glorify God as Jesus talks about (Matthew 5:14-16).

“The women’s network has sent out lots of information in the form of FAQs so that women can be well informed and can protect vulnerable families.

“There is a sense among the women that nations need to repent of “economic and blood crimes, corruption, adultery, immodesty, lies, pride, and mis-using the Word of God. Some churches are spreading speculation about the rapture or vaccines that are not helpful. We want to be a standard of truth and light.”

May we all pray with fervour like these women across Africa.
Praise God that Covid19 has not rampaged its way through African nations and we pray that poor communities and crowded cities stay protected.

Fortuna Tioye leads the Christian women’s group across Africa (PACWA), which is part of the African Evangelical Alliance (www.eaafrica.org).

Rise in Strength (RIS) wants to have a focus on the experiences of women – we have been struck by the fact that over 70% of health workers and carers are women. Often, they are doing the lowest paid jobs eg cleaning in hospitals or caring for the elderly. RIS wants to have a focus on the experiences of women – we have been struck by the fact that over 70% of health workers and carers are women. Often, they are doing the lowest paid jobs eg cleaning in hospitals or caring for the elderly. In many places, the clothing for health workers on coronavirus wards is called PPE – Personal Protective Equipment. We want to bring you spiritual PPE – Prayers and Prophetic insights to Encourage us all. Women are resilient and we hope our short messages protect you to keep on being amazing.
